About Us
Formula SAE (FSAE), also known as Formula Student, is an international collegiate engineering competition organized by SAE International. It challenges university teams to design, build, and compete with a small, open-wheel, single-seat race car. The competition is structured to simulate a real-world engineering project, with students operating as a small company to manage technical design, budgeting, project timelines, teamwork, and business strategy. The prototype car is evaluated based on a series of rules that are used to promote problem-solving and to effectively control onsite event operations. All teams must give a design report, a cost report, and have the car operational for dynamic events (Acceleration, Skidpad, Autocross, Endurance, Efficiency). For the evaluation in total, points are awarded as shown below:
The competition encourages careers and excellence in engineering by exposing students to the many facets of the automotive industry. Formula SAE pushes students beyond the classroom, giving them the opportunity to apply what they’ve learned to real, hands-on engineering challenges.
As a first-year program, Point Park Motorsport is building its foundation from the ground up. The establishment of this organization represents a new era of hands-on engineering and collaboration at Point Park University. As a founding team, we are establishing the culture, standards, and partnerships that will define our program for years to come.
